One of the most horrible P2W games I've ever seen, where not only players who spend >US$150 per type of action indeed get an unmitigated advantage, but several events with exclusive rewards are gated behind high-volume of expenditure.
The main competition areas in the game —and which are the ones which provides you the only or most important currencies of it— all happen in specific time slots which you the player can't adjust or change.
No matter the value of what you will spend, rarely something keeps it value for over 6 months.
Loot boxes for characters, ships, mods. Rarely a guaranteed drop. You’re not even allowed to buy the characters outright. Only shards (which is a gamble on how many shards you get each time) that lead to unlock and levelling them up to seven stars.
There is a reason why people can sell their accounts for large sums of money.
Daily login, arena, ship arena off the top of my head, and those are three different times by the way.
Power creep is built into the game. Meta teams fall off meta to new teams, only to become meta again sometime in future with release of a new character (or multiple characters) that you will have to buy, or farm very slowly. That new character will be a “free” unlock at 2/3 stars, but won’t be viable until you get it up to seven stars, which is impossible to do immediately unless you spend money on shards.
Just like Vegas, pull the slot arm and see what you win.
You can buy: toons (characters), gear, mods, level skips, etc. And you will need to buy all of those for each new character. Not enough to compete buying just one. Without a deep investment of money/time (often both) you cannot compete.
It feels better if you pay.
