Recent Dark Pattern Reviews

Recurring Fee reported on May 24, 2024
monthly and annual passes
Optimism and Frequency Biases reported on May 24, 2024
A good example is the trading post "minigame" (lack of a better word, there is no gameplay) where you fight enemy players' characters with your own, and gain rewards depending on how much damage you dealt. There is no "lose" option, just gaining fewer rewards.
Competition reported on May 24, 2024
there are leaderboards you are encouraged to visit and "pay respects" to (short animation where the highest player(s) says a one-liner and "gifts" you some in-game currency). This is a part of your daily missions. Almost for every single thing you can "progress" there is a limited time leaderboard where you gain rewards for being higher up. Spending under 10€ often equals to a month of progress.
Fear of Missing Out reported on May 24, 2024
a lot of limited events, characters, stories, costumes, etc.
Anchoring Tricks reported on May 24, 2024
often accompanied with "4000% return" or something similar
Waste Aversion reported on May 24, 2024
only 1-2 examples of this. One is in the "trading post".
Variable Rewards reported on May 24, 2024
There is a loooot of random rewards for doing the most basic of tasks. Especially during limited events
Illusion of Control reported on May 24, 2024
The game hooks you in with a constant stream of new characters, weak enemies, good gear etc. for the first 2-3 hours of the game.
Complete the Collection reported on May 24, 2024
Yes, you get small bonuses.
Badges / Endowed Progress reported on May 24, 2024
Kind of? In the sense of "progression" in some part of the game where you in reality don't gain anything meaningful (or at all) after progressing.
