Turning coins/gems/tickets into cards is a repetitive task and then using cards to level up other cards is also repetitive.
You can pay for gems and coins and then spend those on cards to level up your other cards and higher level cards give you an advantage over other players.

You gain cards as you play and having high-level cards makes you score higher on the levels.
