It doesn't emphasizes wins over loses, but if someone hits it big in an event, while getting character shards, or if your RNG gets you an apex weapon, the whole state sees an announcement about your luck.
Most players enforce their own non-aggression pacts so players don't have to fear attack at any random time, but that is not the way the game is designed. There are multiple events that allow players to compete against and attack one another, which can lead to inter-state fighting and fueding.
You will miss out on events and rewards, especially if your alliance does them at times that don't work for you. Alliances tend to be international so it's always 2 am or the middle of the work day for someone. Any time taken off means reduced rewards and slows your progress to a halt.
The shop often lists the "retail value" next to their actual price with count downs, usually it's least expensive on top and more expensive at the bottom, but it can be swapped around. Bundles are often more affordable than individual items, but you still have to pay more for the bundles than a single items most of the time.
Daily quests have randomized rewards, achievements also have rewards that are preset but you won't see them until it's the one you are working on.
Trained 1 million fighters? Achievement. Attacked 100 players? Achievement. Logged in daily/bought VIP experience? You get a special badge showing your rank. etc. etc. etc.
You can transport resources to other players within your alliance, this is often used in a positive manner where an alliance will all pull their resources to help an individual upgrade their headquarters (especially if that player is known to not spend money). But it does mean there are bots trying to sell resources which they'd send using this feature.
It is a round about method, you buy an event item which is then used for a gambling/loot box mini-game. You can get some of the items for free in game, but you must purchase to reach any of the decent rewards
There are daily login rewards VIP exp rewards (which the more day consecutively you login the more experience you get unlocking game features and bonuses)
