Recent Dark Pattern Reviews

Badges / Endowed Progress reported on Jun 21, 2022
there are tons of badges and achievements you can get by having a certain amount of different fish, often with at least one premium (event-locked or in-game currency locked) fish included
Social Obligation / Guilds reported on Jun 21, 2022
i believe your friends also get rewards if you visit their aquarium, so you're helping them by doing so
Grinding reported on Jun 21, 2022
it's literally a tapping game. at its most basic level, you tap the screen to make money to buy fish
Wait To Play reported on Jun 21, 2022
there are power ups that are basically necessary to progress after a certain point that you have to wait between uses
Recurring Fee reported on Jun 21, 2022
There is a subscription you can buy
Power Creep reported on Jun 21, 2022
Every time you get a new fish, the amount to buy another goes up, so you have to upgrade power-ups in order to keep up with the costs. Leveling up costs in game currency that you can get for free, but not at a good enough rate to avoid the desire to buy more in-game currency
Social Pyramid Scheme reported on Jun 21, 2022
you can visit your friends' aquariums for a gift
Fear of Missing Out reported on Jun 21, 2022
the event component makes it impossible to stop playing without feeling like you're missing out somehow
Artificial Scarcity reported on Jun 21, 2022
Early in the game, there were cute little events for holidays, like Halloween or Christmas. Now there's an event going all the time. They make up new ones so there's always one going, and you can only get certain fish, items, costumes (that are really cute) during that time (unless you pay for a chance to unlock one or to unlock the event itself)
Infinite Treadmill reported on Jun 21, 2022
there's always new events and fish to collect
