Everything in the game is based around timers, and micromanaging said timers in order to maximize advancement.
It does give you avatar pieces, which aren't generally useful in game.
It's all timers, all the time. It takes time to travel to systems, to build buildings, to do research, build ships, recycle ships, gain gifts, etc.
Can't pause the game. If you're not constantly checking your shields, other players can attack you at any time.
The game itself hides a LOT of information from players. Everything from how percentages and upgrades work, to what basic status effects do, to even the reasoning behind your ship's power level are hidden to players, and require EXTENSIVE research to being piecing together.
Many of the daily resource timers give you a variable output each day. Some days you can waste your timer and not get any of the resource you need to progress.
Never ending. The highest level play I've ever seen is Ops 51, but I know there's content to at least Ops 60, and as a F2P player, I've only gotten 33 after 9 months.
Yes; the game has multiple "Premium" ships that need daily farming, each taking 15-30 minutes of your time. Once you have more than one or two, it becomes very difficult to juggle all of them.
The game shows screens when starting it up that always throw some offer in your face. Since the game crashes every 10 minutes or so, you see these offers a lot.
Every loot box has multiple tiers with the lowest being the worst value for the money.
