Only energy, it's easy to do and you get many items to skip the wait easily anyway, but the option is there
Daily gifts
You gain gifts in-game that you can send to your friends for random resources that can be really good.
You can compete with players in trivial random battles with no rewards, or you can compete in the Prize Fights and Rift Battles game modes. Prize Fights are battles against one of three randomly selected opponent teams that you gain points from in order to gain rewards and depending on your placing (Top 10%, top 25%, etc.) you can gain better rewards. Rift Battles let you set up a series of teams for opponents to fight against and have a similar reward system to Prize Fights.
There are monthly Prize Fights and Gachas that you can gain exclusive rewards from or have higher chances of giving certain character variants. There's also a new battle pass along with exclusive items in those battle passes you can miss out on forever by not partaking or paying for.
While it is more generous than other games, the inventory system does still have a cap that you can quickly approach if you don't want to constantly sell or use characters, moves and artifacts.
Upon completing almost any fight in the game you're given random rewards based on your performance that can range from being worthless to useful, the former usually being the case.
The accolades you can get include a section specifically for your collection and reward you for gaining a certain amount of characters, moves and catalysts of a certain rarity.
You can gain accolades that act as achievements that give you bonus rewards for accomplishing them, some relying on skillfully play by performing a certain amount of a certain move in fights and some rely on mindless grinding to get all upgrades on the hardest rarity to upgrade characters.
