Recent Dark Pattern Reviews

Wait To Play reported on Jun 3, 2022
When a new tour starts, there are several cups that you cannot play until a certain amount of time after the tour ends. This forces players to continue coming back.
Power Creep reported on Jun 3, 2022
Every vehicle has a few courses that it gets more power on. In every new tour, there is an entirely new lineup of courses, and a new, rare vehicle that does well on that lineup. This renders old vehicles, however rare, useless for the foreseeable future.
Premium Currency reported on Jun 3, 2022
This is Rubies, and you don’t get many for free.
Badges / Endowed Progress reported on Jun 2, 2022
Large mission system, including missions that are locked behind pay walls, both behind the monthly Gold Pass subscription and one-time payments for the mission cards. The progress on these missions is shown to the player regardless of if they have paid.
Artificial Scarcity reported on Jun 2, 2022
Most new characters are limited release, only added to the "regular" pool much later or never.
Wait To Play reported on Jun 2, 2022
Exp and coin gain is capped daily, so if you need too much of either you will need to wait until the next day (or increase the dap with the paid Gold Pass). Later cups each Tour are also locked behind timers, opening up days after the Tour begins or upon use of a special item.
Infinite Treadmill reported on Jun 2, 2022
New Tours (always with new characters, sometimes with new tracks) are added every two weeks. The ranked play system is a never ending progression each week to try and get a high score to get higher ranks and better prizes.
Recurring Fee reported on Jun 2, 2022
Gold Pass is highly encouraged by the game, locking many prizes behind it, and is a $5 per month.
Fear of Missing Out reported on Jun 2, 2022
Characters are usually limited release, and tracks available change each Tour so you may not be able to race in a track you like for a very long time if you miss it.
Pay to Win reported on Jun 2, 2022
If you buy more characters you have a better chance of being able to get high scores on tracks, as well as being able to consistently get more items in multi-player online.
