Recent Dark Pattern Reviews

Premium Currency reported on Jul 29, 2023
The in-game currency 'skulls' (which can be used to purchase temporary effects during a level of gameplay) can be bought in large batches (thousands) via microtransactions, or very slowly accrued in small amounts (random chance of ten at a time per kill) through gameplay.
Invested / Endowed Value reported on Jul 29, 2023
The utility of having maxed-out skill trees makes going to a blank file or deleting the game unappealing. Having 100% completed the game makes one more reluctant to delete.
Power Creep reported on Jul 29, 2023
Things purchased with the in-game currency (which can be bought via microtransactions) only last until the end of the level. The amount of in-game currency remains between levels.
Pay Wall reported on Jul 29, 2023
The last three levels are a mobile-only addition to the game and their difficulty is notably, deliberately ramped up far past the rest of the game, necessitating use of in-game currency to perfect or even complete the levels.

Report a Dark Pattern

Screenshot It's good to be bad, but sometimes those pesky heroes make it harder than it should be. They're always trying to steal your magical gems of power and carry them off, just because you're an evil overlord who's razed a village or ten in your time. Luckily, you can build towers to house demons, orcs, and the undead, each with their own powerful upgrades, to turn those no-good do-gooders into ash before they reach your treasure. Sure those so-called heroes might have paladins and angels and ninjas and more on their side, and they're willing to come after you day and night... but you've got your wits. Oh, and the ability to call down a massive meteor with a snap of your fingers is always handy, too.
