The box rewards system is akin to Clash Royale's chest system, except it also acts as a stamina mechanic. Filling your box slots stops you from playing the game.
You receive notifications when your score is beaten by someone on your friends list.
1. Global and Friend leaderboards. Neither allow you to only compare total score based on the songs you own. This can make it impossible to catch up, since these other players may own exclusive songs. 2. Weekly events contain leaderboards with limited attempts. You can buy more attempts with gems.
1. There's a battle pass every month with 9 exclusive songs. These songs aren't purchasable afterwards for multiple seasons. 2. They add new songs to the base game in large batches. If you don't keep up in either way, you fall behind on the leaderboards or the grind towards Unlimited Play. 3. Some promotional songs have never returned to the game. (Permanent missables) 4. Unlimited play is a limited time pass. The timer starts ticking down as soon as it's purchased.
Getting a new high score plays a chime. New stars make noise on the result screen and home screen. Getting a new medal plays a satisfying sound effect, and has the announcer announce the type of medal you earned. When you move down an event leaderboard, you hear a specific sound effect that will eventually instill negative emotions.
Cases reward you 3-5 or 6-8 random genre cards. Songs are unlocked in semi-random order, EVEN if you purchase them from the shop.
Getting all of the free songs in the base game unlocks Unlimited Play until they add more content. This is essentially a 100% collection award, providing something to work towards. However, they made this goal nearly unobtainable for casual players with the Deluxe update. (Deluxe songs take more than double, even quadruple the time of a normal song)
The shop contains a number of genre boxes purchasable with gems. You cannot choose which song to buy; it's random. This also applies to the time-locked cases, as you get a random amount and type of card. During multiplayer events, you can spend tokens to spin a gacha wheel.
Monthly tour pass: $10 non-recurring fee
Revives have no conformation button. Gem purchases often bring up a second dialog box containing the actual purchase button. (however that's not protected either.)
