Recent Dark Pattern Reviews

Badges / Endowed Progress reported on Feb 5, 2024
But the badges don't really affect gameplay. Challenges have been a part of roguelikes forveer.
Badges / Endowed Progress reported on Oct 21, 2022
Yes, but you can easily ignore them.
Variable Rewards reported on Oct 21, 2022
That's the point of rogue-lites. Levels, monsters and reward items are random.
Badges / Endowed Progress reported on Oct 21, 2022
You get badges, but they have no value beyond "yay I did it"
Badges / Endowed Progress reported on Sep 11, 2022
Badges are available for accomplishing certain goals, however, they are not mandatory and do not change gameplay; many of the badges are unlocked simply by playing the game normally.
Badges / Endowed Progress reported on May 24, 2022
It does give achievements for relatively small events, like slaying 10 enemies or collecting 100 gold (very easily reached early on). However, this is not used in a predatory way, and be seen to serve as a way to show character progression.
Badges / Endowed Progress reported on Feb 3, 2022
Though given that everything is reset every time you die (which happens often) that doesn't seem manipulative to me.
